"Project50" update

So in this post, I recapped my progress in my #2014Goals. Most of those were in the fitness/wellness area. When I wrote my original post on #2014Goals, I included a section at the bottom of kind of random things I called "Project50". These are less important and really just things to do for fun. Here's the update:
PROJECT50
  • Take 50 Crossfit Classes
  • UPDATE: Have taken 5 in 2014, so this is doable.
  • Get rid of 50 things a month
  • UPDATE: Tossed or Donated 50 items in January. Some were old electronics to the dump, the rest were books and clothes to goodwill (or the trashbin).
  • Read 50 books
  • UPDATE: Read 4 books in January:
Fire in the Hole, Elmore Leonard: as a fan of Justified, seemed like I needed to read this
Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, Sophie Kinsella: as fluff as it sounds, first (only) Shopaholic book I'll read
The Supreme Macaroni Company, Adriana Trigiani: final book in a trilogy, didn't like it as much as others by a long shot
The Rosie Project, Graeme Simsion: great easy read, told in such a unique voice
  • 50 Blog Entries
  • UPDATE: So far so good on posting pace
  • Complete another Photo Project, part 1: 50 days of iPhone photos
  • UPDATE: none
  • Complete another Photo Project, part 2: 50 days of DSLR photos
  • UPDATE: none

#2014 Goals: January Recap

I've decided to post monthly updates for my #2014Goals. If posting my goals for 2013 helped, monthly updates should help with accountablity, right?

So here was my list as it stood last month:
  • Run another 5k
  • UPDATE: currently looking at a 5k on 2/22 (depends on on-call work)
  • Complete the Bridge to 10K Program
  • UPDATE: still in progress, running ~40 minutes now
  • Complete the Ramblin' Rose Super Sprint Triathlon
  • UPDATE: registered for the Ramblin' Rose on 5/18; have started spin classes and swimming
  • Stop saying a particular expletive!
  • UPDATE: Mixed results, but usage is way down!
  • Give up caffeine
  • UPDATE: in progress
  • Get down to goal weight
  • UPDATE: Lost ~4 pounds
  • Camp four places: Fort Pickens, Ocracoke, Lake James, Bear Island
  • UPDATE: Travel to Fort Pickens is booked for April
  • Day Hikes in New Places
  • UPDATE: New Hike #1: hiked along Haw River Trail

Clearly a lot of these goals dealt with health/wellness and I'm pretty pleased with how January ended up shaking out. It's one of the busiest months of the year work-wise, and most years I don't even try to include January in any sort of changes or goals or resolutions, instead just waiting until Feb 1. This year I decided not to wait. I sat down and mapped out targets for running, swimming, spin class, and crossfit and of course it varied widely in reality, but I did like having the general mapping and adjusting within each week knowing what I'd hoped to accomplishment within the whole framework. I'll do that again for February, probably while watching the Super Bowl today

This is the monthly/weekly planner that I use for my health/wellness/workout planning and record. I ordered if from May Designs. I don't keep any other calendar items in it (other than which weeks I'm on-call so I can plan accordingly). I put the plans on the monthly page and then record the actual workouts and details on the weekly pages. So far so good!

As a final tally, my workouts were:
Runs: 9
Crossfit Classes: 5
Hikes: 3
Swims: 2
Rides (Spin Classes): 2
Long Walks: 2

As it turns out, February 2014 might be as busy or have as many competitions for my time because I'm on call 2 of the 4 weeks. We'll see.

I also listed a few things under something called Project50, but since this is long enough, I'll post that update another day, but so far so good on that as well.

2014!

Time for some 2014 Goals! I did them for 2013 and wrote them down in a notebook and really didn't look at them throughout the year, but I didn't do too bad on most of them when I looked at them recently. I figured I'd put them here this year (or at least most of them) in an effort for even more accountability. I'll try to do quarterly updates on them to see how I'm doing.
  • Run another 5k
  • Complete the Bridge to 10K Program (we'll see about a 10K race)
  • Complete the Ramblin' Rose Super Sprint Triathlon
  • Stop saying a particular expletive!
  • Give up caffeine
  • Get down to goal weight
  • Camp four places: Fort Pickens, Ocracoke, Lake James, Bear Island
  • Day Hikes in New Places, not sure if I should put a number on this one, maybe 12?

I'm also lumping some other goals under a Project50. I hit a milestone birthday this Fall and wanted to see if I could set some goals around that number. I might add more as the year unfolds.
