#2014 Goals: January Recap

I've decided to post monthly updates for my #2014Goals. If posting my goals for 2013 helped, monthly updates should help with accountablity, right?

So here was my list as it stood last month:
  • Run another 5k
  • UPDATE: currently looking at a 5k on 2/22 (depends on on-call work)
  • Complete the Bridge to 10K Program
  • UPDATE: still in progress, running ~40 minutes now
  • Complete the Ramblin' Rose Super Sprint Triathlon
  • UPDATE: registered for the Ramblin' Rose on 5/18; have started spin classes and swimming
  • Stop saying a particular expletive!
  • UPDATE: Mixed results, but usage is way down!
  • Give up caffeine
  • UPDATE: in progress
  • Get down to goal weight
  • UPDATE: Lost ~4 pounds
  • Camp four places: Fort Pickens, Ocracoke, Lake James, Bear Island
  • UPDATE: Travel to Fort Pickens is booked for April
  • Day Hikes in New Places
  • UPDATE: New Hike #1: hiked along Haw River Trail

Clearly a lot of these goals dealt with health/wellness and I'm pretty pleased with how January ended up shaking out. It's one of the busiest months of the year work-wise, and most years I don't even try to include January in any sort of changes or goals or resolutions, instead just waiting until Feb 1. This year I decided not to wait. I sat down and mapped out targets for running, swimming, spin class, and crossfit and of course it varied widely in reality, but I did like having the general mapping and adjusting within each week knowing what I'd hoped to accomplishment within the whole framework. I'll do that again for February, probably while watching the Super Bowl today

This is the monthly/weekly planner that I use for my health/wellness/workout planning and record. I ordered if from May Designs. I don't keep any other calendar items in it (other than which weeks I'm on-call so I can plan accordingly). I put the plans on the monthly page and then record the actual workouts and details on the weekly pages. So far so good!

As a final tally, my workouts were:
Runs: 9
Crossfit Classes: 5
Hikes: 3
Swims: 2
Rides (Spin Classes): 2
Long Walks: 2


As it turns out, February 2014 might be as busy or have as many competitions for my time because I'm on call 2 of the 4 weeks. We'll see.

I also listed a few things under something called Project50, but since this is long enough, I'll post that update another day, but so far so good on that as well.
